This guide covers everything you need to get your finished work out of Origami AI: exporting MP4 videos from both the PDF editor and the Shorts Generator, saving and restoring full project archives in the .origami format, and sharing your output across platforms.

Exporting a Video

Start the export

  • PDF projects: Click Export Video in the project toolbar.
  • Shorts: Click Render in the Shorts composer.
Both actions open the export settings panel.

Choose your resolution

Select the output resolution that fits your use case:
Use 720p for iterative previews and switch to 1080p only for your final distribution copy. This can cut render time significantly on lower-powered devices.

Wait for FFmpeg to render

Origami AI uses FFmpeg.wasm to compose your slides, audio, music, transitions, and captions into a single MP4 — entirely in your browser, with no server involved. Render time depends on:
  • Project length — more slides or scenes = more time
  • Resolution — 1080p takes roughly 2–3× longer than 720p
  • Hardware — machines with dedicated GPUs and more RAM render faster
A progress bar tracks FFmpeg’s output. Keep the browser tab active during rendering for best performance.
Do not close the tab or navigate away while rendering is in progress. Doing so will cancel the export and you’ll need to start again.

Download your MP4

When rendering completes, the MP4 file downloads automatically to your device’s default downloads folder. The file plays back on any device or media player — no watermark and no Origami AI branding in the exported video.

Saving with Project Archives

A .origami file is a portable ZIP archive that captures your entire project in one place:
  • Slide images and extracted text
  • All generated audio clips
  • Background music selections
  • Scripts, transitions, timing, and volume settings
  • Shorts storyboard data, scene assets, and caption configuration
This lets you pause work and pick it back up later, move a project between devices, or keep a backup before making major changes. To export a project archive: Click the archive / save icon in the project toolbar. Origami AI packages everything into a .origami file and downloads it to your device. To import a project archive: Drag and drop a .origami file onto the Origami AI home screen, or click Import Project and browse for the file. The project reopens exactly as you left it.
.origami archives can be large — hundreds of megabytes for projects with many slides, long audio clips, or video scene assets. Make sure you have enough free storage on both the source and destination device before transferring.

Sharing Your Video

Your exported MP4 is a standard H.264 video file. It plays back on any device and can be uploaded anywhere:
  • Video platforms: YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia
  • Social media: LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram (Reels), TikTok
  • Learning management systems: Canvas, Moodle, Google Classroom, Notion embeds
  • Direct sharing: Email attachment, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud
No special player or plugin is needed. Because there’s no Origami AI watermark or branding in the export, the video looks entirely your own.

Exporting Audio Only

For PDF-based projects, you can export the narration audio without rendering a full video. This is useful when you want:
  • A podcast-style audio track to pair with slides in another tool
  • Voice-over audio to import into a separate video editor
  • A quick way to review narration quality before committing to a full render
Open the Slide Editor, navigate to the audio export controls, and select Export Audio. The audio for all slides is packaged and downloaded without triggering the FFmpeg video renderer.
